Adopt Tarah

Female · Adult · 6 years

Tarah, you already know a bit of her story, but here we recount it again so you can see how she's doing. It was a social media alert that prompted us to take her in. While the photo doesn't fully capture the severity, she had a severe head injury, leaving a part of her skull exposed due to the impact. After several months of treatment and stitches, all the wounds have healed, though her skin is still tight, and she can't fully blink her left eye. This has led to a small ulcer that needs to continue healing. She is a fully sociable cat, though she doesn't trust being held. When you stop petting her, she asks for more with her paw, and she's a sweet purring machine. Oh! We almost forgot, her tail is a bit shorter than normal; we're not sure if it's due to a birth defect or if she lost part of it for some reason./////////////UPDATE MARCH 26, 2020 Tarah had to undergo an operation to remove several teeth, and we're still waiting for the results of a calcivirus test. For now, she's very affectionate and needy for attention, and she's still waiting for her permanent home.

About Tarah

What life with Tarah looks like

Tarah is a adult cat waiting at Defensa Felina in Spain.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tarah, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tarah?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Defensa Felina handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tarah on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tarah if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Defensa Felina will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tarah already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tarah isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Defensa Felina early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tarah and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
