Adopt Tasso

Male · Adult · 8 years

Tasso is a gentle, quiet male dog who has lived at the Romanian animal shelter since October 2019 – together with his brother Kibo. He has spent almost his entire life behind bars and knows almost nothing of the world outside the animal shelter. He does not actively approach people, prefers to keep his distance, and currently does not allow himself to be touched. And yet, he carries something very special within him: a loving heart, cautious curiosity, and the wish to finally belong somewhere. In his pack, Tasso feels at home. He is generally compatible with female dogs, and his relationship with male dogs is decided by their mutual liking. Especially in the company of familiar dogs, he shows his playful and lively side – then he truly comes alive. Unfortunately, it becomes increasingly clear with each of our visits that Tasso is withdrawing further. The years of life in the animal shelter are beginning to wear him down, and one can feel that he is slowly losing his trust in people. And yet, Tasso is not lost yet. On the contrary: one can see that he is actually ready to trust – he just never learned how to do it and cannot currently allow closeness. For that very reason, Tasso urgently needs people who understand him and are willing to accept him exactly as he is at the beginning. People who do not have expectations of quick progress but are ready to work with him slowly, with much patience, calmness, and empathy. He must first learn that closeness is not dangerous and that it is okay to be loved. Tasso is a dog with great potential. A quiet, rural home with a securely fenced garden would be ideal for him. Equally important would be a confident single dog that he can orient himself to and gain security from.

About Tasso

What life with Tasso looks like

Tasso is a large adult dog waiting at Arme Hundeseelen in Năsăud.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇷🇴Adopting from Romania

Romanian rescues handle the highest volume of cross-border adoptions in the EU. Animals are quarantined and fully vetted before transport. Reputable rescues maintain detailed health records and post-adoption follow-up.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tasso, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tasso?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Arme Hundeseelen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tasso on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tasso if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Arme Hundeseelen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tasso already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tasso isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Arme Hundeseelen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tasso and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
