Teco

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 6 months

Teco came to the shelter as a baby, together with his sister Teca. Both were thin and scared when they arrived, but they recovered beautifully at our shelter. When they were ready to meet their families, they both went off to live with their adoptive families. That was six months ago, and now, at just eight months old, Teco has been returned to us. Teco is truly special—we believe he may have been hit by a car when he was living on the street as a puppy. By the time he came to us, all the injuries had already healed, and unfortunately, he can’t undergo surgery now. However, for his comfort, we’ve agreed to cover the cost of surgery and all related care once he’s an adult. He leads a perfectly normal life and experiences no pain—he runs, jumps, and plays just like any other little dog. The only thing that sets him apart is his unique gait, which makes him utterly one-of-a-kind. The family that adopted him didn’t recognize just how special Teco is or how amazing he really is. For this reason, we’ve decided to give him back the name he had when he was at the shelter—rather than the name his previous family gave him. He’s now back with us again, and we’ll do everything we can to find him a loving, responsible family that will accept him exactly as he is and treat him with the respect he deserves. Male, medium size, 8 months old, neutered, vaccinated, and dewormed. Mealhada, Aveiro. To adopt responsibly, please contact 918570448.

About Teco

What life with Teco looks like

Teco is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Quatro Patas e Focinhos in Portugal.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇵🇹Adopting from Portugal

Portuguese rescues coordinate extensively with European rescue networks for cross-border placements, especially for galgos and podencos. Sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID are standard. Adoption fees typically cover the full vet workup.

Frequently asked

Adopting Teco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Teco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Quatro Patas e Focinhos handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Teco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Teco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Quatro Patas e Focinhos will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Teco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Teco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Quatro Patas e Focinhos early rather than rehoming privately; they know Teco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
