Teddy

Labrador Retriever · Male · Adult · 4 years

Breed: Labrador-Husky mixed breed - male dog Date of Birth: 10/23/2022 Shoulder height: approx. 50 cm Compatible with cats: no Compatible with dogs: not generally Teddy is urgently seeking a new home – exclusively with dog-experienced people. As my long-term partner and Teddys most important primary caregiver has separated from us, I am unfortunately overwhelmed with him alone. Due to my full-time work, I can no longer give him the time and attention he needs. Teddy is a 3-year-old Labrador-Husky mixed breed with a lot of energy and character. He generally meets strangers, especially men, with rejection. Therefore, he wears a muzzle in many situations, which should at least be accepted initially. Once he has developed trust, he also shows his cuddly, playful, and loving side. Teddy needs clear rules and confident leadership so that he can react more calmly in stressful situations. During walks, he is often tense and reacts strongly to other dogs on the leash. In a quiet environment, he walks calmly. Therefore, an ideal home for him would be outside the city center. Teddy loves mental stimulation and works very well with his person. Especially hide-and-seek games make him very happy. At home, in his familiar and protected environment, Teddy is quiet and can stay alone without problems. He loves car rides, although he needs some time to settle after arriving at a new place. Teddy is a beautiful, intelligent, and sensitive dog who seeks people who are ready to continue working with him and give him a stable and safe home with patience, understanding, and consistency. About Teddy

What life with Teddy looks like

Teddy is a large adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Porz in Köln.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Teddy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Teddy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Porz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Teddy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Teddy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Porz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Teddy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Teddy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Porz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Teddy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
