Teddy

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 12 years

Teddy - Small soul seeks a safe harbor Teddy was born in May 2014 and found his way to us at the animal shelter as a security measure, since his human had to go to the hospital. It quickly became clear that contact with humans was very important to this little dog! The initial period with us was difficult for him. He ate very little and was very sad. With patience and care, we managed to bring back the shine in his small button eyes. Now, food is once again very nice, treats are even better, and he cautiously but surely sneaks onto the laps or presses against the legs to make sure the cuddles are not forgotten! Teddy is a dog with gentle energy. The fast-paced shelter life is often too much for our little fur ball, and he seeks out a quiet corner where he can have his peace. In a calmer environment, such as walks in the forest, Teddy really comes alive, exploring, sniffing, and balancing over tree trunks. If there is water nearby, he does not hesitate and dares to jump into the cool water to enjoy a few laps. The subsequent rolling in the dirt is naturally also missing, a small snack for strength, and then the sunny idyll is enjoyed, best of all dozing on a blanket. Teddy is very fond of calm and can easily do without bustling activity. He can become unsettled in loud noise and/or a lot of commotion. If his human is present to give him the necessary support, such moments are no problem. Teddy primarily just wants to be there and accompany - quietly and contentedly. He walks well on a leash, and he also knows walking on a slip lead. With other dogs, Teddy is generally compatible; he has already been in mixed dog groups with us. He has also developed a good friendship with his former "roommate" Joe. During his initial time at the shelter, we carefully selected dogs who helped bring back his joy of living. For Teddy, we are looking for quiet, empathetic people who can give the little fur ball the support and security he needs so that he can settle in. People who occasionally give him a loving nudge to show him that he can achieve more than he sometimes thinks he can. People who take him by the paw and try together what else is possible. Whoever has a Teddy by their side has found a faithful friend for life. We can imagine Teddy in a rural residential area, preferably with active retirees. Calmer children should not be a problem, as long as they are older and have a respectful manner. Compatibility with cats is generally given, but must be supervised by the two-legged ones. Teddy is cautious, but occasionally shows slight jealousy, which is manageable. Teddy is intact. *Due to age-related heart problems, Teddy requires medication twice daily, which works smoothly. His performance is limited accordingly to the illness (early decompensated heart failure). Regular veterinary visits and check-ups, especially with the cardiologist, are part of the contract, as well as regular grooming and gentle exercise in the form of several short, quiet walks considering the weather conditions. Heat and high humidity greatly strain the heart. Running alongside a bicycle, wild playing with or without other dogs, and sudden sprints can cause overexertion and must therefore be strictly avoided. About Teddy

What life with Teddy looks like

Teddy is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Brandenburg an der Havel in Brandenburg.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Teddy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Teddy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Brandenburg an der Havel handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Teddy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Teddy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Brandenburg an der Havel will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Teddy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Teddy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Brandenburg an der Havel early rather than rehoming privately; they know Teddy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
