Teddy

Mixed Breed · Male

🐾 Teddy - No more a poor little thing Teddy is a medium-sized mixed-breed male dog weighing 18 kg, who recently came to us. He was apparently passed around multiple times and was kept with a muzzle and a tail clamp in a small apartment with cats under poor conditions. The circumstances of his surrender, however, suggest that his previous life was not easy 😾 Currently, Teddy is still very cautious and reserved. The many new impressions in the animal shelter understandably unsettle him, so he is not yet ready to approach people actively or seek contact. He prefers to observe his surroundings from a safe distance and needs time to build trust. With increasing adaptation, however, it becomes clear that Teddy is a friendly dog who generally has an interest in his environment. So far, he gets along well with other dogs and behaves unobtrusively. 💫As he has not been with us for long, we are still getting to know him ourselves. Therefore, we cannot make a final statement about many everyday situations at the moment. We will update his profile as soon as we learn more about his character, his needs, and his abilities. 👓 🏡 For Teddy, we wish for patient people who will give him the time to settle in at his own pace and build trust. Those willing to give a initially cautious dog a chance could find in Teddy a loyal companion. The previous owners report that he can be left alone for up to 4 hours. He does not get along well with children and cats. He can be temperamental and insecure in certain situations. He needs someone to train him and take him to dog training classes to further develop his cooperation. 🎓 STECKBRIEF: Age: approx. 1.5-2 years Old in animal shelter since: 06.06.26 Breed: mixed breed (black and white markings) Gender: male Origin: DE Abandonment reason: does not get along with small children and existing cats Cats/Small animals: no Children: from the age of adolescence As second dog?

About Teddy

What life with Teddy looks like

Teddy is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Teddy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Teddy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Teddy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Teddy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Teddy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Teddy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Teddy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
