Adopt Teide

Podenco · Male · Adult · 7 years

Teide is a large male Podenco, born on February 28, 2019. He is currently the biggest Podenco we have. Teide came from a terrible shelter, where the animals were severely underweight and in very poor condition.Despite his difficult start, Teide is a very sweet and calm dog. He is a large, strong boy, but he walks nicely on the leash. Like every Podenco, he naturally has some hunting instinct.Teide gets along well with his kennel mate, a female dog, but he is very insecure around other dogs. Therefore, we are looking for a home where Teide can enjoy life as the only pet, ideally with a garden where he can relax in the sun. He is not suitable for other small pets, such as cats, and children make him nervous, so a home without children is best.Teide is very affectionate and loves people. He enjoys attention, loves to cuddle, and is a true big teddy bear. A wonderful gentle giant who deserves a calm and loving home.

About Teide

What life with Teide looks like

Teide is a large adult podenco dog waiting at PAWS-PATAS Animal Shelter in Spain.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Teide, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Teide?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. PAWS-PATAS Animal Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Teide on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Teide if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — PAWS-PATAS Animal Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Teide already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Teide isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with PAWS-PATAS Animal Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Teide and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
