Tekla

Mixed Breed · Female

Readiness: Before Tekla came to the animal shelter, she led a rather independent, not necessarily pleasant street life in the northern part of Poznan. This beautiful female dog had not been able to convince herself in her previous life that humans are safe companions for dogs. She needed long and consistent work from her caregivers to trust that humans would not harm her. Currently, she is convinced by new people and opens up more with each exit from the shelter's crate. She has learned to walk nicely on a leash and enjoys walks greatly. Tekla currently likes the company of people she has already trusted. She has a great motivation to eat and cooperates willingly. She loves to run - it is her way to release emotions, but also the only form of play she knows. She readily steals and takes snacks. She does not panic at the sight of street traffic, but is much more tense in quiet areas where there are not too many people and unexpected situations. It still happens that she gets scared by sudden appearances, such as a cyclist or a skateboard, so it would be best for her to live in a quiet place outside the city center. Tekla needs time to trust a new person. She values her space, so she will need someone who can read the dog's signals and will not force touch. However, once she trusts someone, she is very willing to interact and initiates contact on her own. The sudden appearance of an unfamiliar dog strongly excites her, so we are looking for a home where Tekla will be the only dog. Tekla is still learning to get into the car, but she is becoming more comfortable in rooms and can now calmly occupy herself in closed spaces. For Tekla, we are looking for a home: - patient, respecting space and understanding dog communication; - in a quiet area, outside the city center;

Usposobienie: Zanim Tekla trafiła do schroniska, wiodła dość niezależne, pełne niekoniecznie miłych przygód uliczne życie w północnej części Poznania. Dla Tekli szukamy domu: – cierpliwego, szanującego przestrzeń i rozumiejącego komunikację psa; – w spokojnej okolicy, poza centrum miasta; – bez małych dzieci i innych psów

About Tekla

What life with Tekla looks like

Tekla is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu in Poznan.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tekla, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tekla?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tekla on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tekla if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tekla already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tekla isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko dla Zwierząt w Poznaniu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tekla and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
