Teo

Male · Senior · 8 years

Teo was born in November and arrived at the dog shelter in December. He was only 1 month old, it was 2017. He was kept in a concrete box for 6 long years, until a volunteer decided to take him out to foster him at his home with the hope of giving him a better chance at life and finding a family for him. He is a small size and is cheerful, lively, and playful. He is ready to trust and become friends with anyone who wants to open their heart to him. When the volunteer first met Teo at the dog shelter, Teo was very scared and refused to leave the box (he had only seen that), so he tried to pick him up and this brief contact was enough to win his love and trust. From then on, every time the volunteer passed by his box, Teo would run to the gate, jump, spin around, simply asking for those caresses he had never known before. Now therefore Teo is at the home of the person who wanted to give him a chance, in Calabria, waiting to find a family that wants to dedicate themselves to him and can offer him a real life that he has never had until now.

IT·Show original

About Teo

What life with Teo looks like

Teo is a small senior dog waiting at LAV Italy in Rome.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Shelter trauma - spent 6 years confined in concrete kennel, needs patience and gentle approach

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Teo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Teo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. LAV Italy handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Teo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Teo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — LAV Italy will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Teo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Teo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with LAV Italy early rather than rehoming privately; they know Teo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
