Ewa Mrau was a respected and highly recognizable figure in the Łódź cat community. For many years, she has been involved in catching and neutering stray cats, and her activities have had a real impact on reducing cat homelessness in Łódź. For many, she was a role model - a person who devoted her entire life to the weakest. Helping those from whom the world has turned away became her mission, and eventually - her ultimate goal. However, as often happens with people who completely dedicate themselves to charitable activities for others, Ewa eventually forgot about herself... Focused solely on cats, she neglected her own health, and despite the dramatically deteriorating condition, she still tried to act. At the end of December, she was hospitalized. When Ewa was hospitalized, several adult cats - mostly untamable, wild, hiding from strangers - were in her apartment. Anna Skrzycka, another well-known person in the Łódź cat community, took over the care of this dramatic situation. Anna took on the task of catching all the cats from Ewa's apartment and finding help for them. It was not an easy task. After the disappearance of the caregiver and the entry of strangers into the apartment, the cats panicked. They hid in the darkest corners, and the only safe method of extracting them was to set up trap cages. The entire catching operation took several days. Anna asked for help from several foundations operating in the Łódź region, including ours. We did not anticipate taking in such a number of cats at the beginning of the year. However, we knew that these creatures could not be left alone. We decided to help - we first took in three adult cats, and soon after, a fourth joined them. We would like to write that the only thing they are suffering from is stress from changing their environment and losing their previous caregiver. Unfortunately, this would not be true. All four of them arrived at our shelter extremely emaciated, exhausted, three in very poor health. All are adults, all have health books. Each of them has had one vaccination from 2018-2019, all were neutered at some point - Ewa always took care of this - and three of them were also microchipped. What failed was not the intentions. There was a lack of strength, health, and ability to provide the cats with proper care. Details about the health of the cats can be found below - however, we ask that they not become a reason for disputes or offensive comments directed at a person who can no longer defend herself. We want to present the state of the cats that came to us honestly - today, their well-being and health are all that matters to us, and we ask for the same approach from you, dear readers. Domiś is a tortoiseshell cat (born in 2018), very emaciated. She weighs about 2.5 kg. Her blood results do not look bad at first glance, but we take into account that extreme emaciation may falsely underestimate some parameters - critically low muscle mass can artificially lower urea or creatinine, for example. In the future, a dental procedure will be necessary, because her teeth are in poor condition, but first, we need to feed her and stabilize her - before we can even think about anesthesia. In addition to the dental procedure, Domiś had blood tests done, and in the future, she will need deworming, FIV/FeLV tests, vaccination, and an echocardiogram. The total cost of care for Domiś is about PLN 1,530. Black-and-white tomcat Teodor (born in 2019) has an absolutely tragic state of his teeth. The dental procedure must be performed immediately - the teeth are in such poor condition that in one place, a fragment of the exposed jaw bone is visible. It's hard to imagine how he functioned in pain for a long time. He is extremely undernourished, and blood tests show a reduced fructosamine level, which indicates that he has not covered his daily caloric needs for a long time. In addition to the extensive dental procedure, he needs to be microchipped, dewormed, vaccinated, FIV/FeLV tests, a vaccination, and an echocardiogram. He also needs medication and antibiotics, which he has already received, as well as an echocardiogram. The total cost of care for Teodor is about PLN 1,930. Buro-white kitten Laura (born in 2018) is in the best condition among the four of our new wards, although she still requires intensive care. She is very emaciated and hungry, but her blood results - although far from ideal - are not as alarming as those of the other cats. Laura primarily needs good, high-meat food

Zabrakło sił, zdrowia i możliwości, by tym kotom zapewnić odpowiednią opiekę. Domiś to szylkretowa kotka (ur. 2018r. W przyszłości konieczny będzie zabieg stomatologiczny, bo ząbki są w złym stanie, jednak najpierw musimy ją odżywić i ustabilizować – zanim w ogóle można myśleć o narkozie. Poza zabiegiem stomatologicznym, Domiś miała już wykonane badania krwi, a będzie jeszcze potrzebowała odrobaczenia, testów FIV/FeLV, szczepienia i echa serca. Bura koteczka Laura (ur. 2018r. Laura potrzebuje przede wszystkim dobrej, wysokomięsnej karmy, profilaktyki i stabilizacji: szczepienia, odrobaczenia, testów FIV/FeLV i badań krwi. Łączny koszt pomocy dla Laury to około 400 zł. W najgorszym stanie jest buro-biała Pyza (ur. 2017r. ). Docelowo Domiś, Laura, Teodor i Pyzunia, potrzebować będą osobnego, spokojnego pokoju, w którym będą mogły dochodzić do siebie.

About Teodor

What life with Teodor looks like

Teodor is an adult mixed breed cat waiting at PrzytulKota in Poland.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adopters usually cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Teodor, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Teodor?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. PrzytulKota handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Teodor on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Teodor if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — PrzytulKota will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Teodor already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Teodor isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with PrzytulKota early rather than rehoming privately; they know Teodor and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
