Adopt Teofila

Female · Senior · 11 years

Teofila was wandering the streets of Segovia with his brother Ayuso, both very tired due to the intense heat and lack of food and water. They were lying in the shade of a tree in a garden, but we know that all day they had been walking back and forth under the sun. We believe he might be a herding dog, and as usual, when he strayed from the flock and didn't return, his owner didn't worry about his fate. Another case of hidden abandonment by everyone, as if inspections were conducted on the farmers, it would likely prevent them from having these dogs illegally; this makes it very difficult to report these characters who get off scot-free. Teófila is a very affectionate, obedient, and protective mastiff, even though her size might suggest otherwise; she only wants companionship that will pet and pamper her. The only drawback is that she doesn't get along with other dogs, and it's very difficult for her to coexist with them, let alone cats, whom she doesn't like at all. She would be ideal for a house with a yard and a family living there where she can run and enjoy long naps. People looking for a guard dog for their property should abstain, as she needs companionship and lots of love.

About Teofila

What life with Teofila looks like

Teofila is a large senior dog waiting at Protectora de Animales de Segovia in Segovia.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Teofila, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Teofila?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Protectora de Animales de Segovia handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Teofila on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Teofila if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Protectora de Animales de Segovia will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Teofila already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Teofila isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Protectora de Animales de Segovia early rather than rehoming privately; they know Teofila and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
