Tere

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

As soon as a tiny corner becomes available in the shelters of our friends or a foster family can take in a new ward, the animal rescuers in Spain set out to save dogs in Perrera from certain death. Even Tere came from the dark cages of the state zoo and waited in a concrete hole for someone to come and take her into a room from which no dog had ever returned. Tere was allowed to leave the zoo, but not into the room with the tiled floor and the large plastic container. The five-year-old mixed-breed lady marched alongside the animal welfare workers from Dolmen Animal into the Spanish spring and has been in the care of a small animal pension since February 2023. Tere is a wonderful girl with her pepper and salt look, complemented by her fun tricolor appliques, and a real eye-catcher. At first, the pretty princess was very shy, and it was clear that Tere did not associate hand touches with cuddles. Over time, the friendly female dog became more and more trusting. Now she approaches familiar people on her own and asks with her big round eyes for cookies and tenderness – and in the office, she is found more and more often on the couch, where she stretches her legs elegantly into the air and waits for someone to massage her belly. Tere is looking for a understanding, patient, and active family. She needs people who do not expect a happy dog who trusts everyone and has no problems with visitors to be there after just a few days. Tere will become such a four-legged friend, but to make the journey to a playful family dog, she needs time and lots of love, peace, and opportunities for retreat. Accordingly, her new home should be relatively quiet or at least offer her the possibility to retreat from the jubilation, the hustle and bustle, and the cheerfulness. Children should be old enough to understand that during these times, they must also leave Tere in peace so that the shy female dog can learn that she can control how much action she wants to have – then she will surely be found in the middle of the hustle and bustle soon.

About Tere

What life with Tere looks like

Tere is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tere, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tere?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tere on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tere if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tere already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tere isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tere and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
