Terra

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Sex: female Age: born around December 2022 (approximate estimated date) Size: small to medium (estimate) (10 kg in July 2023) Date of arrival at the shelter: July 2023 Spayed: yes Vaccinated: yes Microchipped: yes Good with dogs: ok Temperament: 28 May 2026: Terra is doing well and has made great progress since the end of 2025. She is still a very fearful dog, but since the incident in which she was bitten (by the neighbor's dog through the fence in November 2025), Terra had to go to the emergency vet. She needed many stitches to repair her upper right lip, which had been injured. Catching her, putting her in the transport crate, the emergency visit, the anesthesia (which was no small matter), the medications, the cone, and so on... and then, well after all of that, there was a kind of click, or a realization, I don't know. Today she has recovered very well and is doing great. Following this, we managed to get her into a harness. I started regular walks today, and we have set up her little morning and evening ritual: I take out the leash, and she goes to sit on the entrance mat and lets me do it. Walks mean smells, meeting other dogs, and expending energy, which does her a world of good! She has been to the vet, something I could not do before because I couldn't catch her. Her vaccinations are up to date, and the vet prescribed Prozac with a gradual dosage, which she tolerates very well. It's a small crutch that helps her move forward and be less stressed, so she can better understand and analyze the situation. She is starting to ask for a few caresses, although these moments are still rare. On walks she systematically tries to approach other dogs, in a very reactive but not aggressive way. She's like a puppy in an adult's body who doesn't yet know the rules. When the other dog is fairly calm and tolerant, things go well. We are working on this right now. She gets along well with Thiem. He has been her anchor since the beginning; he helps her relax and come to us in certain situations. She barks systematically whenever someone enters the house, even our sons, whom she knows. She still has a lot of trouble managing her fears, but we have come so far that the progress is enormous!!! And I think she can still improve. She loves running, playing with Thiem, and, like any good Romanian dog, digging holes in the garden. She is always happy when her bowl arrives. She no longer causes any destruction in the house. She is house-trained and most of the time waits for her walk to relieve herself, otherwise in the garden in an emergency. We still see the trainer from time to time for group training walks. And a scoop: last Monday she accepted, for the first time, a little grooming session at the Jardiland grooming station. What a wonderful transformation for this dog who was so fearful and wild. May 2025 (according to her foster carer): I'm writing to give you news of Terra. She is doing well and continuing her progress, slowly... but still no leash possible... I continue my leash work. She is affectionate with me when we are calm. She knows the words "kibble," "outside," and "run," and at those words her ears perk up!! She still lets off steam in my building's parking lot. She does not try to escape; on the contrary, she comes back on her own as soon as something frightens her. Spayed: yes Vaccinated: yes Microchipped: yes Good with dogs: ok Temperament: January 2025 (according to her foster carer): Miss TERRA requires a lot of patience, but she continues to progress. Still no leash possible, but today she is no longer afraid to come near it, and even to be touched with it in exchange for a treat. She quickly pushes her muzzle through it. July 2024: This morning we worked on leash walking with the trainer. Despite bad weather, it went well. This was her second outing in the building's parking lot. She is progressing well. The first few minutes were a bit scattered (even athletic, even during her first outing), the time it takes for her to understand there is no danger and that no one wishes her harm, but afterward she follows well. Changes of pace, stopping to cross paths with another person, the sound of a car door, expanding her perimeter of exploration. I was even able to take hold of her this morning. 19 May 2024: Terra is doing well; her weight has stabilized and she seems healthy. Her progress at home is slow, and a great deal of patience is needed with Terra. For the past month I have been in contact with the trainer at Heavenly Dog Training in Cormeilles-en-Parisis, because I was struggling to make progress on my own. She had a very hard time relaxing, and approaching her is complicated. The goal is to help her understand that the collar and leash are not a danger, since she is very afraid of them. 7 March 2024: Terra is more and more at ease at home. She goes out onto the terrace to enjoy the first rays of sun. She is making progress; I no longer see any damage in the house, and dear Terra has understood that she has her toys if she wants to let off steam. When I am away, which can be up to 8 hours, she stays calm. She is a sweet, curious dog. She is still fearful about being petted; she is progressing slowly but surely on this. She is no more fearful with the men in the house than with me, and when there are a lot of people she goes to another room to be left alone. There is no aggression at all. She gets along well with the dog and cat at home. Everyone seems to have found their place. She eats well, has gained weight, and her coat is looking better and better. She is a lovely, very endearing dog. She still needs time to work on contact, but I find her progress very promising. 20 February 2024: Terra is slowly progressing, as she is very fearful. I let her take the time to observe and adapt to her new environment. 27 January 2024: Within 15 days her progress has been positive; she dares to leave her comfort zone and moves around the house more easily. January 2024: TERRA has been very fearful since her arrival. She is afraid of us and looks for places to hide. She has chosen the upstairs landing as her refuge, so I set up her bed up there. She eats well, three times a day, to regain weight. I manage to work on approach using treats; she comes to take them from my hand and accepts my presence. She is starting to make calming signals beside me. For the moment it is impossible to put a collar and harness on her and take her outside. But she is house-trained: if nothing frightens her, she relieves herself on the pee pad. She observes a lot despite great anxiety; I hear her come downstairs when the house is quiet and come to eat her bowl downstairs. She enjoys foraging games when no one is watching and there are treats to be found.

About Terra

What life with Terra looks like

Terra is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Remember Me France in France.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Terra, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Terra?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Remember Me France handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Terra on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Terra if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Remember Me France will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Terra already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Terra isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Remember Me France early rather than rehoming privately; they know Terra and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
