Adopt Tess

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 3 years

10 May: Tess is looking for her forever family. Tess has a very gentle and still shy nature. She loves to take walks and enjoys watching the people walking. She sniffs and is interested in everything. It's a pleasure to walk her. At home, she now has the habit of sleeping near the bed. She has a great appetite. Tess will be close to her human references. She can live with a dog or a dog because she is very friendly with dogs. She does not like cats or chickens. Tess is easy to brush and her black fur is becoming more and more beautiful. 6 May: Walk in the forest for Tess. 13 April: 24 March: Tess had surgery for entropion and the recovery is going very well. As is often the case with Chow Chows, Tess quickly rose in temperature at the beginning of the wake-up. Our veterinarian, Dr. Hersan, immediately warned Sandrine, her FA, so that she could come and pick up Tess whose temperature quickly dropped once she had found her bearings. Phew! 11 March: Tess is three and a half years old. At first she is shy and fearful, but Tess reveals herself over the days and weeks, affectionate and funny. She gets along well with other dogs and even starts playing calls. We will choose her family with or without a dog and without a cat. She likes to lie in the grass in the sun and long walks in nature or in the city. A house with a little yard would be appreciated by Tess. Tess is waiting for your applications, here! 9 March:

About Tess

What life with Tess looks like

Tess is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Chow au Coeur in chow au coeur.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tess, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tess?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Chow au Coeur handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tess on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tess if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Chow au Coeur will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tess already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tess isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Chow au Coeur early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tess and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
