The Amphibians

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 10 years

by Cattery | Aug 17, 2026 | Cats, Female, Liverpool, Male, Cats, Female, Liverpool We don’t have a whole lot of history surrounding this group. Only that they had supposedly been left behind by their previous owners and were cared for by a kind member of the public. When they arrived, they were in pretty poor condition. They have since been seen by our vets and have received the treatment they needed to get back in good shape! All four cats get along very well and are often spotted cuddling together and sharing their food. The ideal scenario would be for them to all find a home together. We could, however, rehome them as bonded pairs. Frog, the lighter coloured tortie, is the friendliest of the bunch. We think it’s possible she may be mum and thus is a bit older than the other three. She’s vocal, confident, and has a big appetite. Toad, the darker tortie, is a bit shy but she will approach people she deems safe for some pets and cuddles. We feel once she settles into a home she will gain even more confidence. Newt, the ginger male, is also friendly but he takes a bit of time and reassurance from Frog before he will approach someone. He’s a very sweet boy and likes to give lots and lots of kisses! Sal(amander), the ginger and white female, is definitely the most cautious of the bunch. She is a lot more reclusive and will run when people try to approach her. She has, however, shown signs that she could trust people if she gets to know them well enough. With reassurance from the other cats in her colony, she will approach you if you’re quiet and gentle. These four would greatly benefit from a home with outdoor access. It would be most preferrable if they find a semi-rural or rural home to spend the rest of their days together. We have no known history of whether they would get along with other cats or with dogs so it would be best if they go to a home without other pets. Due to their nature, it would also be best if they go to a home with no children or children who are mature/cat-savvy. Exclusive merchandise available direct from the rescue. About The Amphibians

What life with The Amphibians looks like

The Amphibians is a large adult mixed breed cat waiting at Freshfields Animal Rescue in Liverpool.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting The Amphibians, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about The Amphibians?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Freshfields Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw The Amphibians on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt The Amphibians if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Freshfields Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is The Amphibians already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if The Amphibians isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Freshfields Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know The Amphibians and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
