Theia

English Bulldog · Female · Young · 1 year

Meet Theia! She can be very nervous and unsure when she first meets new people. The world can feel like a scary place to her, and she needs time to get to know new people at her own pace. But once she realises she is safe and she begins to trust you, a completely different side of her comes out. Underneath those nerves is a very sweet, affectionate girl who absolutely loves a fuss and being around the people she trusts. Theia already knows some basic commands and is keen to engage with you. When she gets excited, she does tend to jump up to greet you, so will need some continued work on keeping all four paws on the floor. Kennel life can be difficult for Theia and she does bark while in her kennel. She also currently uses her bed as a toilet at times, so her new family will need to be prepared to work patiently on her toilet training and help her establish a good routine in a home environment. What Theia needs most is someone who will give her time, reassurance and positive experiences to help her learn that the world isn’t such a scary place. She will benefit from a private secure garden. Theia has socialised well with other dogs whilst in our care and is very bouncy and playful. We feel she could potentially live with another dog of similar size and energy levels following a successful meet and greet. As Theia came into the home as a stray we have no previous history on her and as she can be quite timid and unsure we would like any children in the home to be 16+ years.

About Theia

What life with Theia looks like

Theia is a large young adult english bulldog dog waiting at Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) in Manchester.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Theia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Theia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Theia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Theia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Theia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Theia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Theia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
