Theo

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Theo (born approx. 04/2018) is about 55 cm tall and is one of those dogs who have had to wait far too long for their chance. He spent many years in the Campurelu shelter without anyone showing interest in him. How long his life had already been lived behind fences and bars before that, we do not know. Theo has now been able to move to another private shelter, in Izvoru. There we hope he will have better opportunities to build trust in people and finally receive the attention he so deeply deserves. Theo is a beautiful, handsome male with a calm and pleasant presence. He is not one of those dogs who push themselves forward or demand attention loudly. He meets unfamiliar people cautiously at first, with healthy reserve. At the same time, his curiosity repeatedly wins out over his uncertainty. Especially when there are tasty rewards, Theo carefully leaves his shelter and approaches, as long as he is given the space he needs. You can sense with Theo that he would like to experience more of life, but he is not yet entirely sure whether he can trust people. That is why we are looking for people with patience, understanding, and a quiet home for him. People who do not pressure him, but show him that he may arrive at his own pace. People who enjoy accompanying small steps forward and who give a reserved dog a sense of security. We are convinced that there is much more in Theo than he can show today. Behind his cautious manner lies a gentle dog who should finally learn what safety, care, and a home of his own feel like. Whether as a foster placement or a forever home: for Theo, we wish for nothing more fervently than that someone finally recognizes his potential and gives him the chance for a fresh start. After so many lost years, his life should no longer consist of waiting. Theo is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and will be placed with a protection contract after a positive pre-screening. General note on our animals: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can continually reassess their behavior and development. These personal impressions help us greatly in conveying as accurate a picture as possible of each individual dog. However, we would like to point out that a dog in a new environment – with new people, new routines, and new impressions – may show a different side of itself. This is completely normal and part of every process of change. Many dogs open up even faster in a home and show sides that were not visible at the shelter at all. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but are not a guarantee of every behavior in a new setting. They are meant to provide guidance and show how the dog presents itself at the shelter – and what potential lies within it. We are convinced that with patience, understanding, and a loving environment, every dog can find its way and continue to develop positively.

About Theo

What life with Theo looks like

Theo is an adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Theo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Theo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Theo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Theo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Theo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Theo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Theo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
