Adopt Thibaut

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Our Thibaut – a fighter with a heart – Thibaut's story begins tragically but also full of hope. At the tender age of only two months, he was abandoned in a crate without water by an intake station in Greece – exposed to the scorching sun. Even worse: he couldn't even escape on his own because his hind legs couldn't support him. Thibaut suffered from so-called swimmer's syndrome, a condition that made it impossible for him to walk normally. But Thibaut had luck: the helpers at the intake station devoted six times a day to him, doing targeted exercises recommended by a friend from Germany who is a veterinary physiotherapist. Step by step, he learned to use his hind legs again – a small but significant triumph that gave him his first chance at an active life. Then Thibaut's life took a turn that sadly many herding dog mix breeds know: the small, fluffy fellow was rehomed at six months of age – only to be re-abandoned shortly after due to a separation. Thibaut experienced early on: trust can break, people can leave – and pain is sometimes inevitable. So he came to us at the animal shelter. Here, Thibaut is a dog with a past: he carries the marks of his swimmer's syndrome, suffers from a severe hip dysplasia (HD), and has learned that aggression can provide him with protection in painful moments. Unfortunately, an operation is not possible, so he now receives permanent pain medication to lead a life worth living. But Thibaut is more than his physical limitations and his past. He is an incredible guy with a huge personality. Once he trusts his people, he shows deep affection and enjoys every cuddle to the fullest. Thibaut is cheerful, stormy, and brimming with energy – sometimes so much so that it can be a challenge to keep up with him. At the same time, he brings his people to laughter and despair equally often – his explosive nature is part of his charm. Dogs like Thibaut need people who bring patience, calm, and understanding. His future home should give him the time to slow down, build trust, and recharge his reserves. Because the everyday life at the animal shelter is often stressful and exhausting for a sensitive, lively dog like him. Thibaut is a dog you can grow with – a loyal companion who gives loyalty, love, and joy if you give him the chance. Who has the courage and heart to offer Thibaut a safe home will gain a lifelong friend. Do you have questions about Thibaut or an idea of who the right home could be for the little stinker? Then write to us – Thibaut eagerly awaits people who will finally love and understand him. This animal was surrendered to the shelter.

About Thibaut

What life with Thibaut looks like

Thibaut is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Solingen in Solingen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Thibaut, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Thibaut?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Solingen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Thibaut on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Thibaut if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Solingen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Thibaut already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Thibaut isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Solingen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Thibaut and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
