Thor

Unknown · Adult · 5 years

We would like to help him... Herding dog - experienced people wanted for THOR. Sometimes life starts with the wrong assumptions. As a puppy he was acquired - but unfortunately never kept as a herding dog needs and deserves... 😰 His everyday life consisted mostly of lying tied up in the garden. He was hardly allowed to be a dog. There was no fixed retreat at home, no place where he could feel safe and secure. Contact with other dogs was denied him. Instead of learning trust and orientation, he had to cope with a world that never really understood him. After a biting incident within the family, Thor now wears a muzzle permanently. His people have decided to give him up. And although his life so far has been marked by mistakes, we firmly believe that Thor should not be reduced to his past. He never got the chance to show what's in him. That's why we are looking for people with experience, patience and respect for this impressive breed for THOR. People who know the needs of a herding dog and are willing to finally give him what he has been missing all his life: security, clear leadership, understanding and a home where he can be a dog. A securely fenced, large property is a prerequisite. We know that the search will not be easy. But somewhere there may be exactly the people who see THOR not as a problem, but as a dog who finally deserves a real chance. Who opens his heart to this big guy and gives him the new beginning he has been waiting for so long? (Mo-Fr from 11am-6pm) Tel.: display: none !important; .lSSlideOuter .lSPager.lSGallery

Rasse: Zentralasiatischer Owtscharka Schulterhöhe: ca. 70 cm Wir möchten ihm helfen … Herdenschutzhund -erfahrene Menschen für THOR gesucht. Manchmal beginnt ein Leben mit den falschen Voraussetzungen. Als Welpe wurde er angeschafft – doch leider nie so gehalten, wie es ein Herdenschutzhund braucht und verdient…😰 Sein Alltag bestand bisher größtenteils daraus, angebunden im Garten zu liegen. Er durfte kaum Hund sein. Im Haus gab es keinen festen Rückzugsort, keinen Platz, an dem er sich sicher und geborgen fühlen konnte. Kontakt zu anderen Hunden wurde ihm verwehrt. Statt Vertrauen und Orientierung zu lernen, musste er mit einer Welt zurechtkommen, die ihn nie wirklich verstanden hat. Nach einem Beißvorfall innerhalb der Familie trägt Thor inzwischen dauerhaft einen Maulkorb. Seine Menschen haben entschieden, ihn abzugeben. Und obwohl sein bisheriges Leben von Fehlern geprägt war, glauben wir fest daran, dass Thor nicht auf seine Vergangenheit reduziert werden darf. Er hat nie die Chance bekommen, zu zeigen, was in ihm steckt. Für Thor suchen wir deshalb keine Mitleidsvermittlung, sondern Menschen mit Erfahrung, Geduld und Respekt für diese beeindruckende Rasse. Menschen, die die Bedürfnisse eines Herdenschutzhundes kennen und bereit sind, ihm endlich das zu geben, was er sein ganzes Leben vermisst hat: Sicherheit, klare Führung, Verständnis und ein Zuhause, in dem er Hund sein darf. Ein sicher eingezäuntes, großes Grundstück ist Voraussetzung. Wir wissen, dass die Suche nicht einfach wird. Aber irgendwo gibt es vielleicht genau die Menschen, die Thor nicht als Problem sehen, sondern als Hund, der endlich eine echte Chance verdient. Wer öffnet diesem großen Kerl sein Herz und schenkt ihm den Neuanfang, auf den er so lange warten musste? ( Mo-Fr von 11-18 Uhr) Tel.: display: none !important; .lSSlideOuter .lSPager.lSGallery {

About Thor

What life with Thor looks like

Thor is a large adult dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Porz in Köln.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Thor, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Thor?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Porz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Thor on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Thor if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Porz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Thor already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Thor isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Porz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Thor and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
