Adopt Privatvermittlung Antar

Male · 5 years

The dog is no longer at the animal shelter. After living with his foster for approximately 1.5 years, he now wishes to be rehomed. Antar, American Pocket-Bully, around 5 years old, seeks people who take his personality seriously, value his positive traits, and do not underestimate his potential for danger. Antar arrived at the animal shelter in 2023 as a found dog, having been picked up again running at large on both occasions, both times at a school grounds, and both times biting a student. The male dog is incompatible with other animals, and a meeting at the animal shelter with a small dog ended fatally for him. After an investigation by the authorities, the male dog was classified as potentially dangerous in individual cases, meaning that the new owner must have knowledge about the care of a dangerous dog, or must acquire this knowledge. The staff at the animal shelter are happy to provide advice. The male dog reacts positively to people but already knows who has something to say to whom. This is the point where every interested party must show clear and sovereign leadership. He can be managed well with foresight and management (house leash and muzzle, as well as his own space). On this basis, Antar will show himself to be a loyal and reliable companion. Unfortunately, Antar is also a victim of his breed, his atypical build, the overloading of his joints by significant misalignments, and a diagnosed moderate bilateral hip dysplasia (HD), which burden him and will lead to further veterinary treatments as he ages. His over-cropped ears can easily lead to ear infections, and the little man requires special food due to allergies, but he tolerates horse very well. Antar was rehomed and lived in a family with younger children and a cat without problems. However, the family situation has changed, and a second dog has been introduced, which he cannot accept, and it does not work. For this reason, a new loving home is sought for the little round-headed dog, where he can live as a single dog prince in peace. He should not have to return to an animal shelter. Serious inquiries should be directed to: If you are interested in one of our dogs, please contact us preferably by email. About Privatvermittlung Antar

What life with Privatvermittlung Antar looks like

Privatvermittlung Antar is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Tierheim Leipzig in Leipzig.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Classified as dangerous dog, requires special license. Hip dysplasia, ear infections, food allergies requiring horse-based diet. Cannot live with other dogs.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Privatvermittlung Antar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Privatvermittlung Antar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Leipzig handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Privatvermittlung Antar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Privatvermittlung Antar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Leipzig will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Privatvermittlung Antar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Privatvermittlung Antar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Leipzig early rather than rehoming privately; they know Privatvermittlung Antar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
