Adopt Cutch

Belgian Malinois · Male · Adult · 4 years

Our Cutch moved into our animal shelter on January 31, 2024, as part of a security measure. The background was that his owner had to go to the hospital and was then unable to take him back. Cutch is a young, very dynamic male dog who unfortunately never had the chance to learn how to build healthy frustration tolerance and control his impulses. So, dealing with Cutch at the animal shelter was initially difficult and dangerous. Cutch can be described as hectic, unstable, restless, and sensitive. While his breed affiliation not only brings advantages but also amplifies the mentioned characteristics, in stressful situations, Cutch tends to exhibit redirected aggression. This occurs especially during conflicts and in situations where his human behavior is not understandable to him. Such moments include times of restriction ("you can't do that") and situations where he can't get to an object of his desire. Future potential owners should be aware that the muzzle is at least initially an indispensable tool for safe interaction. He can put it on and take it off without problems. We are looking for a stress-free home for our handsome male dog, with people who have enough composure and experience to guide Cutch through everyday life. With proper guidance, he is very eager to learn and agile. Besides his fundamentally friendly, albeit somewhat distant, nature towards humans, Cutch shows a great willingness to please. So, we observed early in the training that he can find alternative ways out of conflicts and stress when given the necessary framework. Cutch gets along well with female dogs in the shelter, although he initially approaches them in a more stormy manner and moderation by a human is sensible. We would like to find people for Cutch who challenge him with breed-specific tasks, as such working breeds react with frustration and aggression to a lack of adequate mental stimulation. Whether obedience training, general dog sports, or suitable mental stimulation, we can imagine many work areas for Cutch and his breed-typical abilities. Is someone ready to be Cutch's friend, mentor, and employer? We look forward to serious and suitable inquiries. If you are interested in one of our dogs, please contact us preferably by email. Tell us in the email how the dog will live with you and send us a phone number. Then a staff member will contact you. Animal descriptions are based on observations at the animal shelter or information from third parties and do not represent guaranteed characteristics.

About Cutch

What life with Cutch looks like

Cutch is a large adult belgian malinois dog waiting at Tierheim Leipzig in Leipzig.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires muzzle initially, prone to redirected aggression in stressful situations, needs extensive mental stimulation and breed-specific work

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cutch, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cutch?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Leipzig handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cutch on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cutch if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Leipzig will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cutch already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cutch isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Leipzig early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cutch and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
