Aaron

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Aaron was taken in by the municipal authority of Leipzig and is classified as dangerous on an individual basis. For Aaron, this means that he must be walked on a leash and in a muzzle in public. Prospective owners must pass a competence exam (written and practical) at their local municipal authority and the landlord must also approve of keeping a dangerous dog. Aaron is familiar with wearing a muzzle and has no problems with it. In the animal shelter, Aaron shows typical characteristics of a Mastiff. He watches over, growls at strangers, and only allows a few into his circle of favorites. These include his primary caretakers, his godparents, and some, few dog walkers. He is influenced by food, but he prioritizes his watch duties over food and is therefore only slightly bribable. A life in an apartment in a city building is not imaginable for Aaron. In addition to his pronounced alertness, he is physically large and strong, so that an owner needs both mental leadership qualities and physical strength to hold him in case of an emergency. We can imagine Aaron's life on a well-secured property, where he can watch without being a danger to other people. According to our research, Aaron might be a Presa Canario mix, who are considered working dogs among the Mastiffs. It would be nice if he could also do mental work together with his human or be challenged at a dog training facility. Aaron would be much better off in a strongly rural area than in a shelter. In the shelter, we have found that Aaron gets along well with female dog. The dogs wear muzzles here for caution, and the person should also keep a watchful eye on the situation. Aarons future causes us some concern, especially since it is foreseeable that the chance for a

About Aaron

What life with Aaron looks like

Aaron is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Leipzig in Leipzig.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Classified as dangerous dog - requires muzzle and leash in public, owner must pass competency test, landlord approval needed. Needs secure property with experienced handler.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Aaron, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Aaron?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Leipzig handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Aaron on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Aaron if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Leipzig will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Aaron already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Aaron isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Leipzig early rather than rehoming privately; they know Aaron and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
