Turbo

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

At our Turbo, the name is absolutely key: he is always on the go and needs urgent quiet adopters who can step on the brakes rather than pushing him to move even more. One should know how to transmit calm and quiet to the hectic male dogs. Dog experience is very advantageous here, as Turbo can sometimes become quite pushy and distant in certain situations, such as during greetings or vet visits. However, Turbo is people-oriented and generally friendly towards them, making it possible to work well with him. Quiet mental stimulation like nose work would be appropriate here. In contrast, his compatibility with other animals is another story. Small dogs are seen as prey by him, which certainly applies to cats and small animals. Therefore, we want to place Turbo as a single dog. Due to his mixed breed and a bite incident, Turbo is classified as "suspected dangerous." The final evaluation will take place within the first half year in his new home, giving his new owners enough time to work on Turbo's upbringing and bonding. During a temperament test, it will be determined whether the male dog needs to be permanently secured. For more information on this, feel free to ask us in a personal conversation if you are seriously interested. If you are interested in one of our dogs, please contact us preferably by email. Describe to us how the dog will live with you and send us a phone number. Then, a staff member will contact you. Dog descriptions are based on observations at the animal shelter or information from third parties and do not represent guaranteed characteristics.

About Turbo

What life with Turbo looks like

Turbo is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Leipzig in Leipzig.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Classified as 'potentially dangerous' due to breed mix and bite incident. Requires temperament test within first 6 months. Prey drive toward small dogs and cats.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Turbo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Turbo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Leipzig handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Turbo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Turbo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Leipzig will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Turbo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Turbo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Leipzig early rather than rehoming privately; they know Turbo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
