Adopt TIETA

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 10 years

A dog named Mika was abandoned at the door of Milu's residence ten years ago! She was pregnant and couldn't wait. She gave birth to five puppies on the same night. Over time, three dogs were adopted, but two daughters grew up in the shelter and were never adopted, just like their mother. One of them is TIETA, a very sweet dog, but a bit shy when she doesn't know people. It's just a matter of time until she gains confidence. She loves to eat, so she's quite plump, but it's hard to control the recommended daily portions in the shelter when food is available. TIETA gets along well with all the other dogs. We would very much like for her not to spend her days in the shelter. It's not fair. She never knew what a home was. She deserves to be very happy. TIETA is vaccinated, dewormed, spayed, and has a microchip.

About TIETA

What life with TIETA looks like

TIETA is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at O Cantinho da Milu in Lisbon.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Overweight due to free-feeding environment at shelter

🇵🇹Adopting from Portugal

Portuguese rescues coordinate extensively with European rescue networks for cross-border placements, especially for galgos and podencos. Sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID are standard. Adoption fees typically cover the full vet workup.

Frequently asked

Adopting TIETA, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about TIETA?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. O Cantinho da Milu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw TIETA on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt TIETA if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — O Cantinho da Milu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is TIETA already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if TIETA isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with O Cantinho da Milu early rather than rehoming privately; they know TIETA and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
