Tiger

Male · Senior · 11 years

At the animal shelter since: 10.01.2024, Privatabgabe Kinderfreundlich: unbekannt Verträglich mit anderen Hunden: nein Katzenfreundlich: nein prey drive: leicht Alltagstauglichkeitsprüfung (ATP): bestanden gemeinsam mit seiner ehrenamtlichen Gassigeherin Jutta Weil sein Besitzer verstarb, landete Tiger im animal shelter. The large male dog can, once he has settled in, stay alone well, but still loves and enjoys the proximity to his people. He is not compatible with other animals or fellow animals. Since he does not know children, children in the household should at least be in their teenage years and know exactly how to behave around dogs. For his age, Tiger is still quite lively. Due to his age-related "wehwechen," he needs pain medication; ball games or stick throwing are therefore not suitable for him. Tiger reacts very problematically to other dogs, so a walk with Mauli is essential. If one goes by sight and maintains a sufficient distance from other dogs, Tiger can go about comfortably and relaxed. For the large Staffie, we hope for a quiet home, preferably with a garden (sight protection recommended – for contact with other dogs). Other animals like cats or small pets should not live in the same household. Tiger wishes for quiet and dog-experienced people who can show him loving boundaries and provide good leadership. This animal is not suitable for homes with children. This animal is good with children. Gets along with other dogs.

About Tiger

What life with Tiger looks like

Tiger is a large senior dog waiting at Tierheim Wels in Wels.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Needs pain medication for age-related issues, requires muzzle when walking due to dog reactivity

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tiger, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tiger?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Wels handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tiger on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tiger if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Wels will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tiger already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tiger isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Wels early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tiger and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
