Adopt Tiger

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Description Our animal welfare workers report: The dear Tiger has not had an easy life so far in his still short existence. He was a puppy (along with Bruma) in the public shelter in Lancram. That is already very hard for a puppy at this place. A sad place, without hope. Finally, Tiger was "adopted." It was not a good adoption; he was chained to a very short chain, a wall. Exposed to the elements, without fresh water, without adequate food, without shelter from the wind, heat, cold, and rain. A terrible fate. Our animal rescuer Maria found Tiger and Bruma as they lived out their sad lives, as worthless beings, cruelly chained, left alone, forgotten. Maria reported the situation to the responsible police, but they did not feel it was their responsibility. Eventually, the dogs were released, more or less abandoned (likely also because Maria had repeatedly pressured to give these dogs up). Bruma and Tiger lived for a while as street dogs. Maria regularly fed them as her budget allowed. Eventually, Maria managed to place both dogs in a private shelter in Cluj. They have lived there since May 2025 in a small pen. Yes, they are safe, their lives are not currently in danger, but it is not a good life. Tiger longs for family connection, he wants to re-establish contact with people, he wants to belong. He enjoys being stroked, he loves the contact with humans. Tiger is a relatively large dog, he looks forward to walks, to movement, to mental stimulation. Who will rescue this lovable male dog from his dreary fate and give him a dignified life? Tiger can be rehomed as a single dog or as a second dog. A garden for playing and chilling would please him very much. He may still need to learn a few things, but we are confident that he will manage. It is conceivable that Tiger has herding dog genes. We are searching for experienced, patient, loving people for this wonderful dog. Update 25.10.

About Tiger

What life with Tiger looks like

Tiger is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tiger, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tiger?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tiger on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tiger if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tiger already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tiger isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tiger and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
