Tigre

Mixed Breed · Male

Description: Our animal welfare workers report: Tigre was sighted as a stray dog in the vicinity of a village for about three months. Our animal welfare workers were able to catch the cautious mixed-breed male dog only with the help of a live trap and a lot of patience. Initially, Tigre was unsure when it came to interacting with unfamiliar people. It needs time to build trust with us and form a bond. It is assumed that Tigre has not had many positive experiences with people so far. Tigre enjoys long walks and likes to sniff at grass. It loves nature and peace. With its trusted people, it can even be clingy and is well-handled. Tigre always shows obedience. It has never shown unwanted behavior towards people. It might be that the stream-lined mixed breed was very strictly raised with methods that are hard to accept. At first, it probably expects nothing good from unfamiliar people, behaves cautiously, but eventually submits. After a certain period of adjustment, Tigre shows itself as an independent dog who likes to go on exploratory trips. We could imagine that the handsome Tigre would fit well in a one-person household where it can form a bond with an individual person, which it desires (this could also be a male person). Alternatively, the initially shy four-legged friend could also adapt to a quiet and sovereign multi-person household if it has retreat possibilities. It can be with calm, older children if they respect its space. The possibility of retreat is important for Tigre. We recommend that Tigre should initially be kept as a single dog. It is not suitable for living with cats or small animals, according to its caretakers – further consultation could be held if necessary. Physically active Tigre would certainly be happy in a house with a yard or garden. In the presence of urban environmental noises, Tigre shows (still) skepticism, which could be gradually accustomed to if necessary. We are looking for very loving people who Tigre can trust and who do not put pressure on it but rather treat it with care and respect its individual needs, so that it can relax without worries – then Tigre is the best friend you could wish for! Please note:

About Tigre

What life with Tigre looks like

Tigre is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tigre, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tigre?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tigre on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tigre if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tigre already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tigre isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tigre and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
