Adopt Timon

Mixed Breed · Male

Timon spent a long time in a Romanian shelter and was then rehomed here in Germany. Unfortunately, the living together with the existing dog did not work out, so Timon was separated to the basement. The matching organization asked us for an accommodation place and actually, we promised to find him his forever home. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out and already after a few days, we received the shocking diagnosis of lymphoma. Since then, we have been fighting the chemotherapy with Timon. We try to make his stay here as pleasant as possible, we cook for him, and he enjoys his regular walks and his soft beds. Currently, he seems to be responding well to the treatment, and as long as it does, we continue to fight with him. Of course, we know that the chances of finding a home under these circumstances are slim— but miracles do happen, and maybe there are still kind and understanding people who would like to offer Timon a real home, even if it’s not forever. Alternatively, we would be immensely grateful for sponsorships and donations, because his treatment is time-consuming and expensive. And he needs fresh chicken and BARF meat, which we cook for him, because that’s what he likes best. Donations would be very welcome. Timon shows himself here with his trusted people simply dreamy. He is modest, balanced, and enjoys affection and cuddles very much—however, he decides himself who he lets get very close to him. While he is friendly and open to everyone outside, his room cannot be entered by just anyone, and even opening the door can lead to a real explosion of emotions on his part. He is a well-established dog personality and if something is important to him, he can clearly express it with assertive threats. What he attaches importance to, where he draws clear boundaries, and who can stroke him bare spots? We don’t know, but one thing is certain: he can read people very well—and despite or because of that, he is a very special, lovable, and cute dog, a big enjoyer. Timon prefers a quiet way of handling and a similarly quiet environment, so we don’t see him in a family with children. Older people would certainly make him happy. An apartment on the ground floor, perhaps with a small garden for sunbathing, would be ideal. Here, he meets cats completely friendly and unexcited.

About Timon

What life with Timon looks like

Timon is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Neu-Amerika in Annaberg-Buchholz.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Timon, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Timon?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Neu-Amerika handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Timon on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Timon if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Neu-Amerika will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Timon already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Timon isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Neu-Amerika early rather than rehoming privately; they know Timon and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
