Timon

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Young · 3 years

Timon lived in a feral pack near an olive grove. The dogs get scraps from the seasonal workers, but as soon as they are no longer on site, the fight for every moldy loaf of bread that a dog could pull from a trash can begins. Near the residential houses, the four-legged creatures are generally not tolerated, and all the animals had already gathered experiences with hard boot stomps, stone throws, and even shotgun blasts. It is therefore not surprising that these dogs are afraid of humans and often would rather starve than approach two-legged beings. Somewhere, the farmers—whose seasonal employees ensure that the stray dogs continue to multiply—get fed up, and whether it’s a grab for a gun or poison, it’s not good for the animals. So, the animal welfare workers from Linares continually try to break up the pack, catching as many dogs as possible and bringing them into the care of the animal shelter. This is how Timon came to ArcoNatura. While most newcomers from this wild-living large pack are very traumatized and some still cannot be touched even after months, Timon is very grateful to the animal protectors for giving him a safe haven where he no longer has to fight for food, where he has a dry and warm place to lie, and where he can form friendships with other dogs without always having to fear a competition. Timon is also rather shy and reserved, but he is a very affectionate and people-friendly companion who, in his quiet and cautious manner, seeks out contact and enjoys every pat. Timon is particularly convincing through a particularly balanced nature, which is rarer for Border Collies and their mixes. He can handle people of all sizes and appearances, does not react to cats and other small animals, and is delighted by the fact that he can sense others’ reservations and respect them. Our extremely friendly, nearly 3-year-old (as of October 2023) empath can already do a lot when it comes to empathy and friendship, but he has not yet had the chance to gather experiences with life in a house. Timon is looking for loving and patient people who can practice with him how to move around in the apartment, how to become a perfect passenger, how to earn an extra and a third treat at the vet for unbelievable bravery, how to have fun with balls, tug-of-war, and frisbees, and of course, how to snuggle on the couch and in bed, in the dog bed, and on the lap of the new best friend.

About Timon

What life with Timon looks like

Timon is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Timon, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Timon?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Timon on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Timon if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Timon already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Timon isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Timon and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
