Adopt Tina

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy

Tina arrived at our shelter in May 2025 as a graduation dog. Appearance: Height: >40cm Weight: ca. 14 kg Personality: intelligent, sensitive, independent, eager to learn, alert, attentive, loyal, finely tuned, skeptical of strangers General: Tina is a loyal female dog and longs for nothing more than to bond with a person who will provide a home for her remaining years. She enjoys long nature walks and is always eager to cuddle with her primary caregiver. She masters basic commands with ease, is leash-trained, and is always approachable and recallable in a run. Despite her 10 years, one would not notice her age, and she often proves to be a true model student during training sessions. She quickly learns new things and enjoys, for example, climbing on stones, tree trunks, and similar objects. Her only flaw is her insecurity around strangers. In the past, when confronted by unknown individuals, she often found no way out and tended to go forward. As a safety measure, she is accustomed to wearing a muzzle. During training, it shows that she must be given guidance and a clear framework in these situations. Once she feels this security, she gladly passes the responsibility to her primary caregiver and increasingly chooses a conflict-free avoidance strategy for herself. She can also sometimes be sharp with fellow animals when their comfort zone is overstepped or when another dog takes the resource of a human. Currently, she lives together with an intact male dog, which works very well. For Tina’s forever home, however, we do not wish her any other animal roommates so that she can spend her remaining years stress-free. • Compatibility with other dogs: conditional • Compatibility with other female dogs: conditional • Alertness: pronounced • Prey drive: not very pronounced Ideal Home • Environment: prefers quiet • Animal roommates: no • Children: no • Second dog suitable: no Requirements for Interested Parties: Tina seeks dog-experienced people who can provide her with the necessary security. We wish a regulated daily life without much fuss, without other fellow animals, and without children for our sweet senior. Instead, it would be wonderful if a quiet, empathetic couple or a single person found her, who can provide her with a clear framework. We stand by to offer advice before and after the adoption and hope that Tina can finally retire. Photos by Pascal Wieczorek www.wildpawsphoto.de (as of 23.01.2026 / SG)

About Tina

What life with Tina looks like

Tina is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Städtisches Tierheim Duisburg in Duisburg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tina, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tina?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Städtisches Tierheim Duisburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tina on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tina if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Städtisches Tierheim Duisburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tina already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tina isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Städtisches Tierheim Duisburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tina and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
