Tinka

Mixed Breed Cat · Female · Adult · 6 years

Breed: European Domestic Shorthair Color: Reddish with White Age: April 26, 2020 Gender: Female, neutered: yes Reason for surrender: Overwhelmed Characteristics: Tinka is confident and independent, bringing a certain ambivalence with her: at first, she can appear very friendly and open, but her mood can change quickly. Tinka is sensitive and clearly shows when something doesn’t suit her – in such moments, it can happen that she strikes or even bites. Especially in stressful situations, such as at the vet or when she feels pressured, she reacts with defensiveness. Tinka seeks people with cat experience who understand her signals and can help her gain more security with patience and calmness. Despite her cautious and sometimes contradictory nature, she has a certain interest in humans and values their proximity, provided she is given the necessary space and is not pressured; she, for example, does not want to be constantly touched. Tinka needs a home where her personality is respected and where she is not pressured; she is not a beginner cat and children in the new home must be at least 14 years old. With fellow animals, it depends on the sympathy, but we could imagine that she would fit well with a very social and calm second cat. Tinka needs a home in a rural environment where she can enjoy free roam through a cat door after the settling-in period. She likes to be outdoors and values her independence greatly. For inquiries about Tinka, please fill out the application form. Someone from the cat department will then contact you and gladly answer any questions or uncertainties. About Tinka

What life with Tinka looks like

Tinka is a small adult mixed breed cat cat waiting at Berner Tierzentrum in Switzerland.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tinka, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tinka?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Berner Tierzentrum handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tinka on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tinka if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Berner Tierzentrum will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tinka already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tinka isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Berner Tierzentrum early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tinka and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
