Tissen

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

We had already met the shy but friendly male dogs during a previous project tour. Tissen, as he was called, was discovered wandering aimlessly in the Campagna at the edge of the town of Arzachena. Eventually, he was caught and brought to the our shelter. When we arrived at his enclosure, Tissen initially kept a cautious distance. But when we remained completely calm, his curiosity won out, and he approached Wolfgang and immediately allowed himself to be stroked. This pleased Tissen so much that he snuggled up to Wolfgang. Of course, he also accepted the treats, but very carefully. Overall, Tissen showed himself to be very affectionate and friendly, always staying very close to us. Only when they measured him did he seem to find the measuring stick unsettling. Perhaps he had bad experiences, maybe he was once hit or chased with a stick? But even in this situation, Tissen remained very affectionate, simply retreating a few steps. When we saw Tissen again during the team project tour in April, he was still somewhat shy but friendly. And cuddles were still welcome. Our impression was that Tissen clearly receives far too little affection. But we are also aware that the few staff members who only work a few hours a day at the our shelter do not have the time to give the attention to the dogs that would be desirable. We therefore would like to give Tissen the chance at a better life. To bring him to Germany, of course, we need people who can support us in this endeavor. Does Tissen warm your heart? Would you like to accompany him on his journey to a new life as a foster home? Or can he move directly into his final dream home, where he can experience the closeness of a family and how wonderful life can be?

About Tissen

What life with Tissen looks like

Tissen is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tissen, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tissen?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tissen on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tissen if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tissen already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tissen isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tissen and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
