Adopt Titus

Mixed Breed · Unknown

This nine-year-old, knee-high mixed-breed male dog spent most of his life as a beloved family member and was allowed to live in his home for about eight years. Due to a bite incident with his owner, he had to sadly return to the animal shelter. In the animal shelter, Titus shows his very best side after a short adjustment period: friendly, playful, and full of joy. He usually meets strangers with indifference—unless they have a toy in their hand. For playing is definitely one of his favorite activities and the best way to get close to him and win his heart. Once Titus has built trust and someone has entered his heart, he actively seeks the company of his trusted people and enjoys shared time and small adventures to the fullest. He gets along well with most other dogs and meets them socially and openly. Despite his age, Titus is still full of energy—long walks, exciting trips into nature, and shared activities make him truly happy. His greatest passion is water: whether a stream, lake, or just a puddle by the roadside—Titus is enthusiastic and clearly enjoys these moments. In everyday life, Titus also brings many wonderful qualities: he is house-trained, travels comfortably in the car, knows basic commands, and can also be left alone for up to six hours. At the vet, he shows cooperative and manageable behavior in the company of a familiar person. How much a secure bond helps him was also experienced by one of our walkers: she could even manage a grooming appointment with Titus without any problems. He wore a muzzle for safety, but the appointment went completely relaxed, and Titus really made the most of it. This shows how well he responds to his people and how reliable he can be with a calm, confident primary caregiver. The previous bite incident, of course, must be taken seriously. At the same time, we assume that Titus sent signals in this situation that were either too late to recognize or misinterpreted. Therefore, we are looking for dog-experienced people who can read his body language, give him security, and guide him fairly and clearly through life. Titus is no beginner dog—but for the right people, he is an incredibly loyal, lively, and loving companion. He longs to spend many more happy years by the side of "his" people.

About Titus

What life with Titus looks like

Titus is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Solingen in Solingen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Titus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Titus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Solingen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Titus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Titus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Solingen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Titus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Titus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Solingen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Titus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
