Adopt Tobi

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

📍 Current Location: Upper Austria Tobi is a neutered mixed-breed male dog born in October 2018, who was abandoned as a puppy near a street and was taken in by the animal shelter of our Hungarian partner organization. He currently lives in Upper Austria with 3 other dogs, 5 cats, and 2 children (including a toddler). Tobi is a gentle and mild-mannered, sensitive dog who forms a strong bond with his primary caregiver after a short adjustment period. He behaves fearfully towards strangers but enjoys the company of his family very much. He loves walks and wags his tail as soon as the leash comes out. The cute boy would make a faithful and loyal companion for robust pensioners as well as families without children who live in rural areas. Tobi is currently living without problems and peacefully with a family with children, but it is noticeable that his ideal home should be a bit quieter. He calms down well and can be left alone for an appropriate period. He gets along with all fellow animals and also accepts cats. He wishes for responsible and loving people who will introduce him to his new life with patience and care, have sufficient free time, and already have experience in dog care. The male dog has a shoulder height of approximately 50 cm and weighs 22 kg. This animal can be anxious in unfamiliar situations.

About Tobi

What life with Tobi looks like

Tobi is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Care Austria in Wien.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tobi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tobi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tobi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tobi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tobi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tobi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tobi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
