Toby

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Male · Adult · 5 years

This dog is being rehomed through our Homestay scheme, staying with their current owner until a new home is found. At the point of adoption, ownership briefly transfers to Dogs Trust and then to the new family. Homestay helps avoid the stress of kennels and allows the dog to remain settled at home. In rare cases, the current owner may withdraw. While we work hard to reduce this risk, it can happen. If it does, Dogs Trust will support potential adopters by prioritizing them for another suitable dog. Meet Toby! Toby is a lovely 5 year old Staffy who is intelligent, affectionate and full of personality. He loves learning new things, fetch, swimming, secure dog fields, scent games, cuddles and snoozing on the sofa! Especially if you tuck him in under the blanket! He is housetrained, can be left for up to 4 hours and already knows lots of commands. Toby needs to be the only pet in the home, although he can have calm, respectful walking buddies with careful introductions, he could live with lower secondary age children as long as they are happy with excitable dogs! Toby would thrive in a quiet home, as noises from neighboring dogs can be frustrating for him. He is muzzled for vet handling because he finds it stressful, but he's fully muzzle trained and actually loves his muzzle! Toby can also walk with his muzzle will which help with his dog interactions and keeping everyone safe in busy area's. Toby is a clever, loving boy looking for someone who will enjoy keeping his brilliant mind busy and give him all the snuggles he deserves.

About Toby

What life with Toby looks like

Toby is a adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Kenilworth in Kenilworth.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Toby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Toby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Kenilworth handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Toby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Toby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Kenilworth will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Toby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Toby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Kenilworth early rather than rehoming privately; they know Toby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
