Adopt Tom

Male · Adult · 6 years

Until now, Tom hasn't had much luck in life. In May 2021, Tom arrived at our shelter with a twisted front leg. It's likely from an accident when Tom was a puppy. The surgery didn't go well. The vet has done X-rays and evaluated whether amputating the leg is necessary. Repairing the leg with surgery isn't possible. For now, Tom is doing very well. Tom has a normal life and doesn't experience pain. Tom also doesn't have any wounds on that leg. That's why the vet said amputating the leg isn't favorable. Tom moves quite fast, runs, and is very happy. When Tom first entered the animal shelter, it was in a terrible state. While in foster care, Tom has improved a lot. Tom has grown, its fur is shiny, and it's very affectionate. Tom prefers to be a unique cat. Tom doesn't get along well with other cats. With dogs, we don't know. While in foster care, Tom goes outside in its garden and comes back at night to sleep at home. At night, Tom spends time in the arms of the foster care mother on the sofa watching TV.

About Tom

What life with Tom looks like

Tom is a medium-sized adult cat waiting at Almanimal Castalla in Spain.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tom, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tom?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Almanimal Castalla handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tom on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tom if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Almanimal Castalla will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tom already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tom isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Almanimal Castalla early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tom and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
