adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Tomate has found a home! His story: Our helpers in Romania have seen a lot of suffering, but there are situations where it can be even sadder than they already know. The case of our litter of puppies, consisting of Tomate, Bounty, Rübe, Jolina, and Crumble, is such a situation that leaves us speechless. The little mice were rescued from a horror animal shelter. There were once seven puppies, but unfortunately, two of them have passed away. When we took them in, they were tiny, full of parasites and lice, and very weak. The capacities for more puppies were already full, but we couldn't leave the little ones to a certain death. Now, they have been treated and are recovering from the hardships of their first months of life. Currently, they are about 2.5 months old. They are expected to grow to a small size. The little Tomate is a fluffy puppy that timidly explores his surroundings. He is cuddly and loving and just wants to be allowed to live a carefree life. He gets along well with his fellow animals. Still, the puppy is tiny, but after the clumsy puppy phase, puberty will follow. In that phase, he will test his limits and challenge his owners. He needs someone to stand by him during this hormone chaos and provide the necessary understanding and support so that he can grow into a great dog. Positive reinforcement training and loving consequences will help him get through this time well and emerge as a strong team. Because Tomate would never deliberately annoy you. He can often do nothing for his behavior during this tumultuous time and hopes that you will always stand behind him during this difficult time. Living children in the household should be older to understand the new companion and not misunderstand him. Surely it would be time now to make new friends in dog training classes and finally "learn something" – maybe with you? He is eager to learn the dog ABC and form new friendships. He is vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and treated for fleas and comes with a positive Naturally, he also brings his own EU pet passport. Against an adoption fee of 500 Euros, he can move in. Show Tomate that life can also be beautiful. Many thanks, Tommy, for giving the little brat his name. As of: 23.02.

Stand: 23.02.2025

About Tomate

What life with Tomate looks like

Tomate is a very small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tomate, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tomate?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tomate on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tomate if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tomate already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tomate isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tomate and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
