Tommy

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

What a wonderful tomcat. But what must this sweet thing have experienced something terrible. With a tail amputation, he was surrendered to the animal shelter because he was no longer house-trained. Allegedly, no one knew what had happened. Unbelievable for the shelter staff, as it is a serious injury. Tommy, who fortunately had not lost his joie de vivre and his good relationship with people, was thoroughly examined. The MRT diagnosis showed that due to the amputation, there were severe nerve injuries, and recovery of bladder and bowel continence was not to be expected. This greatly influenced his life. He lived in "single housing," as extensive cleaning work was necessary daily, and no possibility of outdoor access existed. So, the young man should not have to spend his entire life like this, hence, they asked us for help. So, the handsome one then moved into the Gnadenhof. To get a better idea of him, he was also initially placed in a single room here. Quickly, I could see that there were small fecal spots everywhere. His sleeping place was soaked and full of feces in the morning. An attempt to train him to use a diaper went well, but like any other cat, he wants to groom himself, and the thing annoys him and gets "discarded." We want to continue, and so, Catmom Hanka is trying to sew suitable small diapers for him. Of course, he needs a lot of care, meaning that one must assist him with "pouch care." To improve his quality of life, he now lives in our cat quarantine with secure outdoor access. There, he has company from other indoor cats, and he has already explored that the cat flap leads to the outdoor area. There, he now takes walks in the snow and observes the many birds. But he always returns quickly to the warm room and enjoys cuddles. For those who are interested in this so lovable tomcat despite the "construction site," feel free to contact us. Also, taking on a sponsorship would be a great help.

Angeblich wusste niemand, was passiert war. About Tommy

What life with Tommy looks like

Tommy is a small adult mixed breed cat waiting at Kleiner Gnadenhof e.V. in Schwaan / OT Letschow.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tommy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tommy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kleiner Gnadenhof e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tommy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tommy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kleiner Gnadenhof e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tommy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tommy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kleiner Gnadenhof e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tommy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
