Adopt Tommy

Mixed Breed · Male

A handsome and mischievous fellow – that's our Tommy. This charming tomcat was originally placed privately but was unfortunately never picked up by his owner again. Now, Tommy is waiting for people at our animal shelter who want to give him a real forever home. Tommy is a confident, impressive tomcat with character, who knows exactly how to get attention. Despite his cool demeanor, he enjoys being close to people and brings a lot of charm with his mischievous nature. His special trait: Tommy is Leukemia-positive. Leukemia, similar to FIV, is one of the viral infections all cats are tested for here. Currently, the infection does not affect him at all, and Tommy is fit and full of life. Since Leukemia can be transmitted to other cats through direct contact, Tommy should either be rehomed with already Leukemia-positive cats or live as an only cat. Additionally, we recommend that he live in an apartment suitable environment, ideally with a secured balcony or secured garden. This cat is to be kept indoors only.

About Tommy

What life with Tommy looks like

Tommy is a medium-sized adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierschutzverein Trier und Umgebung e.V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tommy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tommy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Trier und Umgebung e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tommy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tommy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Trier und Umgebung e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tommy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tommy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Trier und Umgebung e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tommy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
