Tommy

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Tommy has found a home! His story: Our wonderful and imposing Tommy is doing great in his foster home and has already settled in nicely. He gets along well with the only dog, a male Rottweiler, and is also very friendly with people. Tommy however prefers women a little bit more than men and can sometimes be a bit reserved. We are sure, though, that it is only a matter of time until he realizes that he can also trust the male gender. Tommy already walks nicely on a leash. He also has no problems with being left alone, at least not with his dog buddy. Tommy simply shows himself in his foster family as a nice guy who is ready to learn about the world. Besides going for walks together, cuddling is currently his biggest hobby. With a shoulder height of about 59 cm, Tommy is a medium-sized dog. He has glossy, lacquered black fur and a muscular, sturdy build. His color, build, and distinctive face suggest that Tommy is likely a Cane Corso mix. We wish Tommy a loving family with the appropriate know-how for this large and heavy breed. A rural, more quiet environment would certainly be the best for this sensitive power package. Tommy is probably a Cane Corso mix. This breed and their mixes are listed in some federal states as working dogs, for which certain criteria must be met in terms of care. Although this breed is known for being particularly family-friendly and balanced, they often exhibit a pronounced protective and watchful drive that must be guided sensitively and consistently. If interested, Tommy can be visited in his foster family to see if the chemistry is right. After a positive match, Tommy is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, treated for fleas, and has an EU pet passport. A special thanks goes to the namesake Gabi C., who gave Tommy his beautiful name and thus a unique identity. As of: 19.09.

Stand: 19.09.2024

About Tommy

What life with Tommy looks like

Tommy is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tommy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tommy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tommy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tommy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tommy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tommy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tommy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
