Tomte

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Tomte has found a home! His story: Here comes heartbreaker Tomte. The little male dog had a rough start in life. Why? Together with his five siblings Aldor, Ronja, Romy, Mirja, and Lumiel, he was placed in a large plastic bag shortly after birth, thrown into a street ditch, and left to die by suffocation or starvation. Our local rescuers were miraculously on the scene in time, saving the helpless and vulnerable litter at the last minute and tenderly and compassionately providing 1. aid. Now, the six fluff balls are beginning to explore the world around them piece by piece. The cute Tomte is likely to grow to medium to large size. During the pubertal phase, which begins roughly in late autumn, things can get turbulent, as previously learned and practiced commands or Welpen ABC lessons may occasionally be forgotten. Then, patience and empathy are called for, and once the hormonal transition is over, little Tomte will likely bring great joy and happiness to his human or her family. According to his expected size, the fluffy-headed pup should be given plenty of space and freedom to move. A house with a garden in rural or suburban areas is ideal, as he can fully unfold and enjoy an exuberant and dignified dog life there. Do you want the little Tomte in your life? After the difficult, harsh start in life, he needs a home full of care and cuddles. His little suitcase was packed around mid-October. He will then bring his EU pet passport, is microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. He can be fostered as well. Tomte would initially be very happy to be in a foster home. Many thanks to Stefanie, Walter, and Hund Fant for giving Tomte a heartwarming name and thus an identity. As of 13.08. This is a puppy.

Stand: 13.08.2025

About Tomte

What life with Tomte looks like

Tomte is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tomte, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tomte?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tomte on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tomte if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tomte already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tomte isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tomte and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
