Toni

Male · Adult · 6 years

Toni, our little Macaroni, a small, fine fellow with a stubborn streak. Toni has learned many things in his life on his own terms. He was allowed to decide on many things and was served many things as he knew them from his human servants. But he also can't avoid changes and the different colors of life. When Toni came to us, his worldview broke first, but he quickly noticed how much freedom he got for it. Being a dog is probably one of the most important ones... sadly, he could only experience it properly here. In the dog group, where he has been with us since March, there are no problems. Toni is socially compatible and likes to have fun, also in the sun, and he also enjoys the joint rest with his dog colleagues. Toni does everything for treats - on the one hand, this can be very practical, on the other hand, this greed can also escalate and tip into resource-related aggressive behavior. Here you should work with him very calmly, not even lose your head and become hectic, but bring patience to offer him the opportunity to deal with food more relaxed in the future. His frustration tolerance can be honed in this context, but also in a few other situations. Self-protection is the top priority here, because Toni can definitely attack. There were also situations in the animal shelter where he wanted to defend other resources such as his blanket or his sleeping area. Therefore, it is recommended to handle him for the time being while he wears a muzzle, which does not bother him. Once you have earned a place in his heart, he can be handled well both in the tightest of spaces and in grooming, etc. Then he also seeks the proximity of humans and is very happy! On walks, Toni shows himself to be uncomplicated, he runs motivated and mostly leash-led, even when other dogs are there. We are looking for a dog-experienced person for him who gives him peace, shows him boundaries and gives him guidance for his future life. There will certainly be situations in everyday life that will still challenge him to accept new things and leave his old worldview behind, he needs someone who looks at him exactly and leads him confidently. He is not a sportsman, but instead of Agility, Longing, Nose Work or Mobility Training would be a job for him. Whoever falls in love with Toni & wants to learn more, please contact us - we are looking forward to it!

DE·Show original

About Toni

What life with Toni looks like

Toni is a small adult dog waiting at Tierheim Lübeck in Lübeck.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Toni, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Toni?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Lübeck handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Toni on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Toni if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Lübeck will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Toni already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Toni isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Lübeck early rather than rehoming privately; they know Toni and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
