adoption requirements adoption process Ask for Toppi now! adoption requirements adoption process Ask for Toppi now! The awesome Toppi is a herder dog mix and about 4 years old. He knows all the important commands and even some tricks, goes super well on the leash, and loves to do things with his people, especially in nature. Toppi does not like being alone – then he barks strongly and cannot calm down. Currently, it's going better, but that can change relatively spontaneously. Therefore, it would be great if, for example, someone works from home or someone is always at home. Toppi has a perfect medium size, with a shoulder height of around 55 cm and about 18-20 kg. He loves to be active, especially with head and nose work, and then he is fully enthusiastic about it. But also resting purposefully on his spot also belongs to Toppi's everyday life. Cats he does not know yet, with children he has no problems as long as they know respectful behavior towards dogs. However, children in the household should already be older and have experience with dogs. In direct interaction with fellow animals, Toppi is attentive and social, but he still needs guidance and management to handle his frustration and insecurity. Toppi is very curious and has to check out his environment a lot. Sometimes he reacts to unsettling stimuli with barking. It's important that he realizes his people are there and that they take care of things. Furthermore, it would be good for him to live in a more rural setting to have to process fewer stimuli. Toppi is chemically neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated and possesses an EU pet passport and can be adopted upon positive verification. Who would give Toppi a loving home with many cuddle hours but also structure and orientation? He can be visited beforehand. As of 20.02.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! About Toppi

What life with Toppi looks like

Toppi is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Toppi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Toppi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Toppi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Toppi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Toppi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Toppi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Toppi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
