Adopt Troll

Male · Young · 3 years

British Longhair Troll is a neutered male cat, born in 2023, and is likely a British Longhair mix. The handsome fellow arrived in poor condition: his fur was severely neglected, necessitating a shave, and he had several minor wounds. It quickly became clear that grooming is definitely a "management issue" with Troll. His coat is very high-maintenance, but Troll himself finds this type of body care rather unnecessary and makes his disagreement quite clear. 😅 Troll is generally familiar with human interaction and can indeed enjoy closeness. However, he demands cuddles on his own terms. If things get too much for him or he feels cornered, his mood can quickly shift, and he may deliver some hearty swats. He comes across as very confident and straightforward in his communication. Therefore, we are looking for a quiet, experienced home for Troll where people understand cat language, respect his boundaries, and do not wish to change him. He doesn’t need constant entertainment but rather people with patience, structure, and understanding for independent personalities. We can easily imagine Troll as an indoor cat. He probably prefers not to share his home with other cats and would likely be happiest as the sole prince. If you wish to offer a suitable home to a strong-willed tomcat with rough edges and his own unique charm, feel free to meet Troll. If you would like to meet him, please click on the "Request Cat" button and fill out the online form completely. This way, we will receive all relevant information in advance for an initial conversation.

About Troll

What life with Troll looks like

Troll is a young adult cat waiting at Tierheim Ludwigshafen in Ludwigshafen/Rheim.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Troll, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Troll?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ludwigshafen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Troll on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Troll if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ludwigshafen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Troll already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Troll isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ludwigshafen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Troll and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
