Adopt Tucha

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 8 years

Tucha is an absolutely uncomplicated little family dog. The charming mouse had already had a home in Portugal where she was loved and well cared for. Clearly, she hasn't made any bad experiences with people, which is evident from her open nature. Tucha approaches all people fearlessly and asks them very directly, but always kindly, for cuddles. She is simply loving, people-oriented, and very clingy. She loves nothing more than being petted and lying on someone's lap. The little mouse, however, also has a lot of energy, which she displays on nice walks. Tucha is not a performance athlete, but she is always enthusiastic for exciting discovery tours – at least if it's not raining! On a bad day, she prefers cozy cuddle hours on the sofa. ;) At her foster home, Tucha quickly "settled in." She has discovered the coziest sleeping spots and memorized the path to the kitchen. ;) In the house, she is quite quiet and well-behaved. When nothing interesting is happening (i.e., eating, walking, cuddling), she simply dozes contentedly. She also handles house training quite well. However, alone time seems unfamiliar to Tucha or at least not very appealing. This would need to be practiced in the new home. The dog ABC is still completely new to her. But with a few treats, the little raw diamond will surely master the most important lessons with flair. Tucha already knew how to walk on a leash in Portugal. That works very well. Only when she gets excited, she must loudly make her opinion known. This is the case, for example, when she sees other animals like dogs, cats, horses, sheep, or even "suspicious" people. Tucha has no problem with other dogs. She can therefore be rehomed to a nice only dog home, although she wouldn't turn down a life as a spoiled princess either. What Tucha thinks of cats is still not clear. On the way, she has excitedly barked at all cats, but closer contact has not yet happened. This would need to be tested in a more relaxed setting. For Tucha, we are looking for a home where she doesn't have to be alone for too long. Given her uncomplicated, friendly nature, Tucha would also be suitable for people without dog experience, and we could also imagine Tucha with rugged pensioners.

About Tucha

What life with Tucha looks like

Tucha is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hundehilfe Portugal in Speyer.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tucha, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tucha?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundehilfe Portugal handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tucha on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tucha if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundehilfe Portugal will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tucha already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tucha isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundehilfe Portugal early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tucha and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
