Tulip

Lurcher Β· Female Β· Young Β· 2 years

Tulip will need adopters who are happy to take things slowly and allow her the time and space she needs to settle. She isn't particularly comfortable with physical contact at the moment, so her new family will need to be hands-off initially and let her choose when she's ready to interact. A secure outdoor space will be helpful to allow her to begin building confidence with housetraining without the pressure of frequent walks or being introduced to lots of unfamiliar places too quickly. Tulip isn't looking for a home that expects instant cuddles or adventures; she's looking for people who understand that trust takes time and are willing to celebrate the little milestones along the way. She's a very sweet girl with so much potential, and with the right support, patience and understanding, we believe Tulip could blossom into a wonderful and loving family member. Tulip is a gentle flower aged around 2–3 years old who is looking for patient, understanding adopters willing to let her blossom at her own pace. She can be shy and worried when meeting new people, so she will need multiple visits to build familiarity and trust before going home. Tulip is also worried and conflicted when meeting other dogs and would prefer calm, gentle canine companions. She could potentially live with a calm, well-matched dog, (males needing to be neutered). Tulip cannot live with cats or small furries but could share her home with older secondary-school-aged children who understand the importance of giving her space. She finds sudden movements and loud noises worrying, so a quiet, predictable home where she isn't rushed into new experiences would be ideal. Thankfully, Tulip is very food motivated, which will be a wonderful tool for building her confidence and developing a positive relationship with her new family.

About Tulip

What life with Tulip looks like

Tulip is a small young adult lurcher dog waiting at Dogs Trust Basildon in Wickford.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tulip, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tulip?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Basildon handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tulip on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tulip if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Dogs Trust Basildon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Tulip already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tulip isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Basildon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tulip and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
