Turtle

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Temperament: friendly Turtle was found with a large wound on his head. Surgery was done to repair the wound via a skin graft and eye removal was necessary to prevent infection. Turtle has recovered well and is showing no on-going concerns from this surgery. Living life on the streets can pose all sorts of threats to precious dogs in Romania, especially those like Turtle who was found badly injured and taken to safety at our shelter. Thankfully, he was brought to us soon enough that we could operate and although he lost one eye in the process, Turtle has recovered well and is living proof that bravery exists in all creatures. Turtle is an amazing boy who has not let his past define him. He approaches new people, is friendly, kind and has such an enthusiasm for life. He is going to make a wonderful pet for a family who are as wonderful as him. He will likely need a slow introduction to domestic life and will suit a family who are keen to train him, as he is still learning basic manners like lead walking and house training. However, if you dedicate the time and are looking for an energetic companion – you will be paid back endlessly by this inspirational boy. Please note, Turtle cannot live with cats as he is too interested in chasing! Observations: the world’s bravest boy Preferences: a family keen on training Available adoption in: UK, Sweden

About Turtle

What life with Turtle looks like

Turtle is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at ROLDA in Galati.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇷🇴Adopting from Romania

Romanian rescues handle the highest volume of cross-border adoptions in the EU. Animals are quarantined and fully vetted before transport. Reputable rescues maintain detailed health records and post-adoption follow-up.

Frequently asked

Adopting Turtle, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Turtle?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ROLDA handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Turtle on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Turtle if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ROLDA will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Turtle already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Turtle isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ROLDA early rather than rehoming privately; they know Turtle and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
