Tyson

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 10 years

Hello, my name is Tyson. In the course of an official inspection, I came to the animal shelter and am now waiting for my new humans. I am a very characteristically unique guy and have been through quite a bit in the past. At first, I am very mistrustful of strangers and only begin to open up gradually. With familiar people, I am very open, enjoy attention, and am motivated in training. I am not a cuddly dog; I let others handle me, but I am not fond of it. I know exactly what I want and communicate it very clearly. I love water and am generally a big clown—when I make a fool of myself, I always get a lot of laughs. With female dogs, I get along well, but I do not like cats. In the past, I have often shown aggressive behavior towards both strangers and familiar people. A behavioral medicine specialist analyzed that I show increased impulsivity and a social anxiety disorder, and past incidents can be linked to a "misdirected hunting behavior." In recent years, I have made great progress and am stable, but I will always be a dog who must be led with a muzzle. Health-wise, I often show signs of lameness, and I am currently receiving pain medication. Additionally, there is a suspicion of grass allergy in the spring and a food allergy. My main food is currently monoprotein "Horse." I am the needle in the haystack. I am looking for people who already have experience with difficult dogs and feel capable of safely and well integrating an ex-convict. In my new home, I need my own room with a muzzle release to ensure a safe cohabitation. You should have the opportunity to visit me at the animal shelter for an extended period so that we can get to know each other well. My caregivers and trainer would accompany the entire placement process and the first few weeks at home. Are you my needle in the haystack? My audience? Then please get in touch!. This dog has a prey drive.

Mein Publikum? Dann melde dich bitte!Dein Tyson

About Tyson

What life with Tyson looks like

Tyson is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein St. Pölten in St. Pölten.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tyson, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tyson?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein St. Pölten handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tyson on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tyson if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein St. Pölten will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tyson already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tyson isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein St. Pölten early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tyson and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
