Tyson

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

American Staffordshire-Mix Age: 30.08.2018 Gender: male Since in shelter: 25.06.2024 Tyson is a very curious male dog who is in his own little world. This is expressed by consistently pulling on the leash, so he pretty much blocks out the person at the other end. He is not a dog who demands cuddles or attention. However, if you take the time for him, he will allow cuddles and can enjoy them. You must be very consistent with him, but also have the necessary patience if things don’t work out right away. He loves to swim, but would completely forget himself and find no end to it. Therefore, you should eventually pull the plug for him. In motion is his motto. Interacting with other dogs is not so easy for him and is also highly dependent on the other dog. Either fellow animals are ignored (there are still more exciting things to explore) or he becomes so persistent that the situation escalates. Therefore, he should always be secured with a muzzle when interacting with other dogs. Due to his high prey drive, he is not compatible with cats and other small animals. Therefore, it would be best for Tyson if he were the only animal in the house. Toys (especially throw and catch games) should be avoided, as they could trigger his prey drive even more. You still need to train with Tyson and put a lot of work into bonding with him. But if you make the effort, you will get a very pleasant dog with whom you can experience many adventures. We hope that our world explorer will soon find a new home.

About Tyson

What life with Tyson looks like

Tyson is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Speyer in Speyer.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tyson, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tyson?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Speyer handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tyson on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tyson if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Speyer will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tyson already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tyson isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Speyer early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tyson and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
