Uma

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 7 years

Uma is a gentle and lovable Podenca who looks to the future with trust and curiosity despite her past. At 7 years old, standing only 41 cm tall and weighing around 10 kg, she is a small but elegant female dog waiting for her forever home at Arca Sevilla Animal Shelter. Like many of her kind, Uma was discarded by her former owner, a hunter, from the hunting pack. Her time in the shelter was an act of mercy as countless hunting dogs are abandoned or suffer a cruel fate when they are no longer "useful." However, Uma has left her past behind and is ready to start fresh. The initial veterinary check went very well: Uma is healthy, and all rapid tests for possible Mediterranean diseases were negative. In the shelter, she shows herself friendly, open-minded, and people-oriented. She loves being everywhere, observes her surroundings with curiosity, and is delighted when volunteers spend time with her. Uma enjoys walks, practicing new commands, and long cuddle sessions equally. She already walks very well on a leash - a great foundation for shared adventures, as she has a hunting instinct typical of the breed. Uma gets along well with other dogs in the shelter, and she also handles encounters with unfamiliar four-legged friends during walks without any problems. She greets children lovingly and fearlessly. For Uma, we wish for people who appreciate her gentle, curious nature and show her with patience, security, and loving consistency how wonderful life as a family dog can be. A home filled with joy from shared walks, activities, and many cuddle moments would be perfect for this special Podenca. Who will give Uma the second chance she so desperately deserves?

DE·Show original

About Uma

What life with Uma looks like

Uma is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Uma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Uma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Uma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Uma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Uma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Uma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Uma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
